In God's Love, Together We Flourish

Personal Development

Our vision at St. Catherine’s is to provide a loving and inclusive environment that encourages every student to live life in all its fullness, just as Christ intended. We believe that every pupil has the potential to succeed and our aim is to help them develop the knowledge, skills, and values they need to become independent and responsible individuals, ready to make a positive contribution to their local community and society as a whole.

At St. Catherine’s, we believe that by providing a high-quality education that is focused on ‘life in all its fullness’, we are preparing our pupils to become confident, compassionate, and well-rounded individuals who are well-equipped to lead fulfilling lives and contribute positively to society.

At St. Catherine's, our vision and mission are the over-arching umbrella of our Christian values.

We are inclusive:

The vision is inclusive of all groups within the context of the school by…

  • welcoming all and being committed to ensuring that each person flourishes in our learning community related to their own personal gifts or needs
  • recognising and celebrating uniqueness and diversity
  • listening to each other and showing respect
  • valuing and appreciating each other
  • showing kindness and consideration to others

We ensure dignity:

The vision recognises the importance of and honours the individual by…

  • ensuring that our school curriculum is knowledge-rich, well organised and ambitious for all pupils, including those pupils with SEND

We are equitable:

The vision enables all to be treated fairly by…

  • enabling pupils to take risks and build resilience
  • being fiercely passionate about the curriculum being accessible and equitable for all pupils

 Our bespoke curriculum:

Retrieval
At St Catherine's, we believe retrieval is essential for students to be successful. Pupils being able to know more and remember more will build on the knowledge and skills for them to be successful in society. This will then lead to the best achievement in each year group and being ready for transitions to the next stage of education.
Literacy
At St. Catherine's, we believe literacy is a key driver to success and plays a vital role in transforming pupils into socially engaged citizens. Pupils need to be able to understand what they are reading and to be able to write fluently with a high level of language. This will then make our pupils well-equipped to be ready for the world of work and communicate effectively.
Oracy
At St. Catherine's, we believe pupils should be able to be articulate and express their feelings and meanings eloquently, confidently and sensitively. The benefits of oracy skills go far beyond academic achievement and employability – they boost a whole range of social, emotional and interpersonal skills, including selfconfidence, self-awareness, resilience and empathy.
Cultural Capital
At St. Catherine's, we believe pupils should have access to a wide, rich set of experiences so that they are able to develop their talents and interests. This comes through all aspects of the curriculum – exposing pupils to a large variety of subject areas; promoting character-building qualities through careers and enrichment and about the wider employable skills that are required. Our pupils participate a wide range of experiences to prepare them for future success.
Leadership
Pupils are given the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and personal characteristics to prepare them well for a modern and demanding world. Our aim is to develop self-confidence, resilience and personal responsibility. We actively support and encourage our pupils to take-up positions of responsibility, work closely with staff in order to prioritise areas that are important  to both pupils and staff and focus on  the development of the school and the community.
Enrichment
Enrichment provides learners with the opportunities to try new and varied activities and to develop character, resilience, motivation, and encourage them to pursue  wider goals. Enrichment helps to teach life skills that benefit learners far beyond the classroom, and can develop an appreciation for cultural and community issues, teamwork and social responsibility.
The purpose of enrichment at St. Catherine's is to:
  •  Offer a wide variety of rich experiences for all pupils. We do this through enrichment activities within our curriculum offer as well as through the provision of a wide-ranging set of extra-curricular activities and clubs for all year groups.
  • We encourage as many pupils to attend as possible and ensure we offer something for everyone.
  • Provide cultural capital opportunities to pursue outstanding personal development in line with our curriculum
  • Deepen the body of knowledge and skills needed both for outstanding academic outcomes and to be successful citizens within wider society.
